Workout Log - Thursday, April 28

Had a great workout today. Felt pretty good to start with, which is always a good thing. Started by doing 10 minutes warm up on elliptical machine, followed by ActivTrax workout and free weights. Added some extra thigh machine work. Next, did 35 mins on the treadmill at a light to medium level. Working out is hard, but the best part is you can eat what you want, and still maintain or lose a little. If I would just get more clean with my eating, I would get better results faster. But, oh well! I will just keep working hard.

Got a Secret?

I just found the best blog ever. Check this out:

Secrets

Some of these confessions blew me away. I am thinking of sending in my own confession. What a great and interesting way to get things off your chest. Some of these were a little scary, but wow, what a great idea! Feel free to share your secrets with me if you want...I won't tell!

OUCH!

The sting of rejection hit our household this afternoon. That means daughter did not make her dance team. She is a little disappointed, but handling it well for a girl that has never been cut or turned away. She will be fine. Rejection is a good thing to learn about and learn how to handle. She has expressed interest in taking classes, and I will be at the Dance Studio signing her up next week. Maybe she has found a new love, although, she is going to be pretty busy as it is. *sigh* Everything will be fine. All the rejection I have had in my life, has not made me bitter....dang cheerleading! grrrrRR!!!!

Wrong

Just wrong on so many levels.

Go ahead, make my day

Today is my day off from the gym. I officially proclaim this day my day of rest. I am the Queen of me. I am sitting here with a big ole mug o' hazelnut coffee flavored with low fat vanilla creamer...yum!!!! I was just watching Good Morning America, and I could not help but laugh at the response from a story that Charlie Gibson just did. Seems that some people (liberals) are up in arms because down in Florida, Jeb just signed the "Force with Force" law. This law states that people have a right to meet "force with force" to defend themselves on the street. The response from a few of the people they interviewed totally cracked me up. They were almost the equivalent of "Oh my gosh, who would want to defend themselves?', or 'Force with Force? Why would you want to use force against someone who wants to kill you? Wouldn't you want to make them your friend?". Please people. This law means that is someone attacks you on the street, you can actually defend yourself. OH MY GOSH! What is this world coming to???

On another note, my daughter may get her first taste of rejection today. I would say at the age of 12, almost 13, that's pretty good. She has always been one of those kids that was chosen for everything she went for. In other words, she gets what she wants. She is a good kid, a honor roll student, and very talented in many areas. Her artwork is chosen every year for display at the local art festival. She has been named star student every year that she has been in school. A paper she wrote, won her a trip to Dauphin Island to learn and explore coastal areas and it's animals. You get the point....she wins. This time she may not win. I think I may be more worried about her potential rejection than she is. For some strange reason, my tomboyish girl has turned into a girl this year. Her best friend just made the competition cheerleading squad at her middle school which may have influenced her to try out for her school's dance team. This week, our afternoons have been busy with me picking her up from one school and hauling her to another for the initial practices where they learn their routines. After practice, she comes home and practices some more. Today is the day. Tryout day. Now, I am not saying she is a bad dancer, but this child has never even wanted to go to dance class. Every year I ask her, and every year she turns down the opportunity to take dance. She is too into horses. Instead of dance, she has been taking English horseback riding and she has done this for years. She was more into jumping than anything else. Of course, the lady that coaches her says she is a natural (naturally), but that is horseback riding, not dancing. We do not have a horse or anywhere to even put a horse, but this is what she has been doing at a local barn. She take lessons. But not dance lessons. So like I said, this may be her day of rejection. If she does make it, it will be for the following reasons: She is a good kid, she is an honor roll student and has been her whole time in school, she is determined, oh...and...she always wins.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Workout Log - Tuesday, April 26, 2005

Today's workout consisted mainly of weights. I did 5 mins warmup on the treadmill, followed by 50 mins of weights and ActivTrax assigned workout. After that, I did 10 fast walking mins on the treadmill. I also added some extra leg work with weights and squats. Going to try to get some housework done before I go over to daughter's school for a room mom meeting.

Have a great day!

Some bloggin action

Phew! Finally I get a chance to sit down and do a little blogging. These last coupld of weeks have been crazy. I hope to have a day one day when I don't have anything to do but sit and stuff my face with cheetos (ala Britney) and watch talk shows where people throw furniture at each other or wrassle for their mullet wearing redneck man (also ala Britney). It won't be this week unfortunately, as the kids are keeping me pretty busy. That's okay though, that is what I am here for. My youngest son will graduate this year, so I am trying to do as much as I can for him before he moves on in life. One thing that I have always been fortunate enough to do is to be active at all of my children's schools. I have been a room mother for something like 14 years now. I have enjoyed every minute of it and would not have missed it for all the money in the world. I was just informed that my son and two of his friends plan to get an apartment this summer because they all want to move out on their own. This is the child/man I don't worry about. He saves his money and always plans for something that might come up. He is a responsible young man and I am sure he will be successful in everything he does. He will be attending a local college in the fall pursuing a degree in engineering. Looks like his stepdad rubbed off on him.

I posted my workout earlier today, and I was discussing it with hubby tonight at dinner. I had something a little weird happen - something that has never happened before. Now, I did work pretty hard this morning, probably harder than I ever have. When doing the elliptical machine, I set the resistance really high and pushed the incline up all the way for quite awhile. When I was finished, I did a couple of ab machines and the bicep machine, but started feeling flushed. When I went to wash my hands before I left, I looked in the mirror and my face was totally red! I felt sorta feverish too. When I got home, I pretty much looked the same. I looked it up online, and evidently I over did it a little much. I may get a little pink working out sometimes, but I have never turned beet red like I did today. I guess I need to not push it that hard. I have a goal and I intend to reach it, although, I rather not kill myself getting there. I do not want to try the death diet. I plan to be more careful tomorrow. I didn't get my walk in tonight because we had some errands to run, and daughter had an activity to attend. The fun never ends around here.

On another note, we have been researching new cars. Hubby is thinking about buying a new car at the end of this year because his poor car is probably not going to make it much longer. Daughter and I are trying to convince him that the 2005 Mustang would be the perfect car for him (in Legend Lime of course). Whatever he gets will probably be her car in another 3 1/2 years (Waaahhhh!!! She is not a baby anymore!). He might as well get something she likes. Hopefully his car will make it until the end of the year. *fingers crossed* At this rate, I am just hoping I make it until the end of the year.

I need a vacation.

Workout Log - Monday, April 25

Today was pretty much cardio only. Did one hour very hard on the elliptical machine. Varied resistance and incline (sometimes doing highest of both). This was the equivalent of 5.35 miles and according to the machine, I burned 632 calories, but according to my heart rate monitor, I burned 314 calories. As much as I would LOVE to believe the elliptical machine, I will have to go with the heart rate monitor...sad huh? After cardio did some ab work on two different ab machines. I am seeing what I would call a two pack starting to emerge (as opposed to a Tu Pac...hahahah...sorry, I just could not resist that). Anyways, I see two little muscles in my upper abs starting to form which is pretty exciting. Must keep up the hard work! I have events at two different schools today, and afterwards, my daughter wants to go walking. Plan to get in at least a half hour walk today also.

Anniversary

I have been meaning to write about our 15th Anniversary (April 21), but haven't had a chance, so while I am thinking about it, here goes. Hubby was going to take the day off, but I had a field trip with our daughter, so he went in and worked half a day. We had agreed that since we had out entire downstairs hardwooded a couple of months ago, we were not going to exchange gifts. The hardwood would be our anniversary gift. Also, hubby had gotten me a 1.25 carat 3 stone princess cut diamond ring for Christmas/Valentine/Anniversary, so he was set there. I got him a Mac iBook G4 laptop for Christmas/Valentine/Anniversary, so I was set also. I almost choked him when he walked in with a box from my favorite local jewelry store. I told him I was going to make him take it back (you know I was only kidding right?). I opened it up, and inside was this:

Is that not just the cutest thing you have ever seen? He said he wanted to get me flowers, but he wanted a flower that would last. I have collected Swarovski for years and this will make a wonderful addition to the pieces I have. Do I not have the most wonderful husband in the world? We went out for a wonderful dinner and spent the rest of the night at a school open house. Doesn't that sound romantic?

Bling!

So cool

We have been having freakishly cool weather here this weekend. It was only in the low 50's today and breezy to the point you had to actually wear a jacket or sweatshirt. We worked in the yard all day weeding and getting ready to plant some annuals. Good thing we do not have them in the ground already because they are calling for a hard freeze tonight. Neighbors have been outside today covering their plants so they don't get hit. I guess sometimes being behind on stuff works out good sometimes. This is the first Saturday hubby has had off in weeks, so we are running a little behind on getting our yard ready for spring/summer, but it still looks great if I do say so myself. I put out a jackson vine (smilax smallii) about 4 years ago and it has grown very slowly, but this spring is taking off with a vengence.

I love this vine as it reminds me of an area of our downtown where many of the old homes have Jackson Vine draped across the upper moldings of their front porches. When I was a small girl I could imagine the ladies on their front porch drinking lemonade while the Jackson vine swayed with the wind. Wow, that was deep wasn't it? It is a very pretty vine and an evergreen and you can use it for decorating and such. Especially during Christmas, and I have had friends ask me for cuttings to use at weddings.

Hubby and I noticed the amount of Trilliums we have coming up in our yard this year. The past year we have seen one or two, but today we counted at least 10 just in our back yard. We mow around them because they are considered endangered, but we seem to be blessed with them. Our yard is covered with hardwood trees and it is pretty shady in the back, which happens to be the condition that Trilliums love.

After we finished working in the yard, it was time for our son to go pick up his date for his senior prom. We took a lot of pictures and they headed out to meet a group of friends at a nice restaurant before they headed off to the dance. I hope they are careful. Our night will be spent making brownies and just having a nice little family night. I need to catch up on my email as I have not been home very much lately and have not had much time to get anything done. I did actually get to read a few emails and make a few replies before I headed out to lunch with a group of friends, but my box if full and I really need some time to sit down and clean it out, and update my address book.

This coming week will be very busy as I have a field trip with my son on Monday, and my daughter will have to be picked up early every day next week due tryouts for an activity at my daughter's new school. I am going to try to make it to the gym every day if I can.

As for now, we have our chiminea blazing outside and it's time to go roast marshmallows and make somore's.

Have a great and fabulous weekend!

Workout Log - Friday, April 22

Only time for my workout log right now. Maybe I will get to post something witty later. Today's workout involved just weights. Did 1 hour and 10 mins of nothing but weights. Today's focus was biceps and shoulers. Did not do cardio due to the fact that I felt weak and crampy...ugh! Also, while I was at the gym the weather was getting so bad and the electricity kept flickering off and on. I hope to get up and do cardio early in the morning and skip the weights since I worked on weights so long today.

I did buy a new smaller pair of capri's today and they fit perfectly.

Go Me!

Workout Log - Weds, April 20th

Wow...actually remembered my heart monitor today! YAY! Today's workout consisted of cardio only. Didn't want to push the weights too hard since I had a hard day yesturday. Did 20 mins on the elliptical machine (the one I like), and then 45 mins on the treadmill varying the degree of incline and speed. I would get my heart rate up to the 130's and then take it back down to the 110's or so. Several times put it at the highest incline. Had much to do today so left after cardio. Had a high school field trip today. Probably won't make it to the gym tomorrow as it is our anniversary, and the worst news is, I have a field trip tomorrow too (hubby does not know this yet, and I didn't tell the teacher I was going, she just assumed I was since I go on all of the field trips and informed my daughter as to the time I needed to be there). *sigh* I love how they wait until the end of the year to do everything at once. Hoping I can make the gym on Friday before my PTA mom's luncheon.

On another note, I was very excited watching the Cardinal's election results of the new Pope. That was just thrilling to see the white smoke, the bells ringing, people cheering, and the anticipation of waiting to see who it was! Wonderful! And I am not even Catholic!

Gym Log - Boring stuff for my record

Gym log for today:

Felt very tired to start off. Did 5 mins on the treadmill to warm up. Had a very intense weight workout. Did the ActivTrax workout that was assigned for today, then kicked it up a notch by adding some extra leg and back exercises. Added extra weights to arms also. After weights (1 hour) I got on the elliptical. Seems my 2 favorite ones are broken :0(. Had to use the ones by the tv's until one of the models I like became available. Stayed on the elliptical I do not like for 15 mins, then went and did some more bicep and back work, then went back to the elliptical for another 10 mins at high resistance, medium incline (sort of a little circuit training going on here). Total work out time today was a little more than an hour and a half. 3 lbs down without changing my diet (still a size 10 *sigh*). I would like to lose 10 more then I will back to where I want to be. That should put me in a comfortable size 8 maybe even a 6. Depends on how much toning I get in. I am willing to work hard, and eat a little more clean to get to where I need to be. I still have to have my mexican food though. I refuse to give that up.

You can't see the stars.....

if you are always looking at the ground.

I am feeling much better today and seeing stars instead of dirt. Hubby finally got a day off. Hooray! This is the first day off he has had since Easter. It was sorta weird because this morning after the kids got off to school, we just sorta looked at each other like..."what now?" We ended up having a great day together. He decided to clean out the garage a little, which was great because it had gotten so cluttered. Now I can actually get to the deep freezer without fear of serious injury. While he worked on the garage, I ran to the grocery store to pick up a few things. When I got home we went out for a yummy lunch (mexican of course), then he went with me to the dentist (isn't that romantic?). I was afraid I had a cavity, and I have not had a cavity in years and I wanted to get it checked out. My fear comes from last Thanksgiving when for the first time in life I cracked a tooth (no Thanksgiving dinner for me). I thought I might have had a cavity then, but to my horror, when I went to get it checked I had cracked a molar!!!! Now, everyone that knows me knows I am anal about my teeth and brush about 10 times a day. I actually started crying when the dentist told me that I would have to have a crown. I told him that was only for old people. He laughed so hard when I said that. He doesn't know that I am in denial about getting old myself. It was not an experience I would want to repeat. Call me a wimp if you must (because I am), but I have never been one to have problems with my teeth. I have always had great pride in my strong Native American teeth. Did you know a dentist can tell that you have Native American ancestry by the shape of your teeth? Anyways, I had asked him what would happen had I not come in at that time and he said that I would possibly need a root canal. Now you know why I ran over there today at the first fear that something was amiss. I did not want to get to a point where I might need a root canal. I don't wish that on anyone. I have heard horror stories. Turns out I do not have a cavity. What I do have is excessive wear due to clenching my teeth when I am stressed. I have worn one of them down to the point where some of the little nerves are sensitive. I catch myself clenching while I am sitting at a red light or standing in line. Here I think I am a patient person, but I clench my teeth when I have to wait. I also grind my teeth at night while I sleep to the point where hubby has to wake me up and tell me to stop. I am not sure why I am doing this because I do not feel stressed out. I mean, I guess I worry like most moms, and maybe that is what is going on. He ended up applying a sealant that helped calm the nerves and sort of deaden them. Anyways, I have been fitted for a mouth guard to stop grinding at night. Otherwise, the dentist suggested I sing at redlights to avoid clenching. I wonder what the heck I am supposed to do while standing in line? I am sure the people around me do not want me to sing. Maybe that would be a good way to speed up the line or clear it out all together. Maybe I might just try that. HA!

Speaking of singing, my daughter was in her school's talent show tonight. She did a wonderful job. I wish I was like her. She is never nervous about getting in front of people and singing or performing. She did a fabulous job.

I did not go to the gym today. With hubby home, I decided I would be a slacker. It felt good, but I will be back at it tomorrow. I have missed 3 consecutive days. These next few weeks are going to be very busy. I have about 2 field trips a week between my daughter's school and my son's. I have volunteered for almost everything that has come up to volunteer for. *sigh*

No rest for the weary.

But at least I see the stars.

Feeling Sappy

I have just felt down all day. I miss my husband. Once again he got up early and went in to work. I will just be so glad when this is over. It's been over a month since he has had a day off. I don't know how he is doing it and I am just falling apart. I am trying to do everything I can to keep busy and keep the house going, but it's getting harder. Yesturday he was able to get off a little early and meet us at a local Earth Day celebration and join us at a nature conservatory and planetarium for various activities. It was fun, but he is so danged tired I am not sure how much he really enjoyed it. It would be one thing if he were working 9-5, but he is working from around 6am until 8 or 9pm and that is making things very hard. We all miss him very much. I was even pretty weepy today because this is just getting so old and I am so ready for it to be over. I do appreciate that he has a good job, that he is good at what he does, and he does get paid very well, but, he does have a family and that stupid plant needs to give us some time too. Grrrrr!!! So much for wonderful promotions. I guess I am not happy being the manager's wife that just spends the money. Many of these wives love not having their husbands home and they just hire everything out and do everything without their husbands. I am nothing like that. We have always done everything together as a team and I have been missing that. To make matters worse, our anniversary is coming up this week. Jeez...I wonder if he will be able to schedule time off for that? Our daughter has an activity at school tomorrow night, I wonder if he will be able to make it.

Okay, enough whining. I gotta pull myself up and do this. I am going to try to keep a positive attitude. All I know is there better be some big ass bonus when all this is over, or I am going to be upset.

Too much Mexican food

This is day two of Mexican food. Yesturday, I went with one of my friends to run some errands (smart huh? seeing how gas is all expensive and everything), and we decided to go Mexican for lunch. Yum! My favorite food. Last night I do not know what possessed me to make...yep, you guessed it, Mexican food - for dinner. We had tacos. Still good though. Today the people I use to work with called and wanted to know if I wanted to go for lunch and get...you guessed it, Mexican food. 3 meals in a row of Mexican food. I think I may have had enough. El trastorno estomacal!

Yesturday took daughter for her first pair of contacts. She did extremely well putting them in and taking them out. She seems to have taken to them very well. She is going to be like her mama who loves her contacts and hates her glasses, I can tell. We're so vain.

Today I did go to the gym although it would have been a fabulous day to climb back in bed.

Today's workout:

ActivTrax life plan workout - 45 minutes
Elliptical - 25 minutes.

Oh, and still no hubby, he is still working massive hours. *sigh*

Happy Hump Day

Happy Hump Day! Making our way to Friday. Today there was almost a mutiny at the gym. I had done my 50 mins on the elliptical machine and was just going at it, music blaring, when this girl comes up to get on the machine beside me. I had a fan on me because I had gotten there early and snagged a prime spot. Anyways, this girl comes up and turns the fan that was facing a couple of the girls on the treadmills across from me, on her! They both turned around and tried to tell her she was taking their fan. I could see the action, but couldn't hear it because Eminem was telling me that Shady was back rather loudly. Okay, so this girl ticks off the girls accross from me and I am just trying to get my hour in. I wanted no part of this scene. I keep going, and the girl that pissed everyone off looks at me and starts talking to me. I remove one ear piece to see what she was saying and she was telling me that the fans were meant to be moved at any time and they could get their own fan. WHAT? Oh gosh, at this point, I just wanted to finish my whole hour. One of the girls on the treadmill starting coming our way, so quickly, I told them they could have my fan. I was almost done anyways, and I am not one that wants to be around any confrontation. I just could not believe how inconsiderate the girl next to me was. She kept talking to me even when the poor girls accross from me were trying to adjust my former fan and the whole while shooting the girl next to me dirty looks. I just kept my headphones on and finished my hour.

Also disturbing: They make these things called "sports bras". Some poor soul at the gym thinks her regular bra is a sports bra. I want to tell her, it's not working. She does the double step class and when I am on the hip adductor machine, I do my best not to look at her. There is not way in heck I would ever think my regular bra could double as a sports bra..and to make matters worse, she does not wear a shirt. *sigh* Just not a scene that is enjoyable. She is a pretty heavy girl and she is just definately not getting the support she needs. If she had a friend there, I would hope they would tell her. It's not pretty.

Oh well, getting ready to head out for errands.

Stop here if you don't want to bore yourself to death.

Work out log:

60 mins elliptical with various resistance and incline. I tried to move it around a lot so that I could get my heart rate up and down. I was 50 mins in my target zone today! Whoohoo!! At first I felt I would not make it 10 mins, then something kicked in. This is the second time I have done a whole hour.

After elliptical, did 2 sets on the low row machine and some flies. Also did some glute work and abs.

Total workout time: 1 hour 20 mins.

Weigh in in 2 weeks

Back

Back from the school and I have a little sniffle bug with me. Fortunately she is not running a fever, but there was a whole line of kids waiting to be picked up with the same thing - sinus ick. It did rain quite a bit last night which is a good thing because it will push the pollen out. We are supposed to have more rain tonight and tomorrow so hopefully that will take care of the problem. All my years of living down here, I have never seen the pollen this bad.

Today is a gray sorta icky day, so it is a good day to just stay home. I did not go to the gym today. I needed a day of rest. I am pretty sore from yesturday's workout, and you do need to give your muscles a rest so they can heal. That's my story and I am sticking to it. Instead, I am sitting here with a big ole mug of coffee that I made from coffee beans that are flavored with Kahluha and Vanilla. YUM! Oh, and of course I flavored it with low carb french vanilla creamer. MMMMM!!!!! So, that's the kind of day it is here at our casa. I will get my lazy bum in gear and get some laundry done and iron some clothes for the Big Norwegian and myself. The least I can do is my wifely duties and make my hubby look good. We pulled the summer clothes out of the attic and I am in the process of packing up all the sweaters and winter items to head back up and take their place. The fun just never ends around here. There is always something to do.

website of the day: http://www.pagesixsixsix.blogspot.com

Mellow Yellow

Yellow...it's everywhere these days. In our area, everything is covered in thick yellow pollen. It's the worst I have ever seen it. Our cars are absolutely covered in it. Yesturday after I cut back the monkey grasses, I swept the front porch and it was covered too. As I swept, there were thick puffs of pollen floating through the air. All this pollen means the fun is starting. My daughter is already experiencing the fun with a stuffy sinus cavity and a hacking cough. JOY! I love Spring! I am sure the rest of us will soon follow. Break out the Allegra!

Well, the phone just rang it is my daughter's school.....she is in the clinic (surprise!!!), more when I get back.

Great Weekend!

Hello, we had a great weekend. Friday night my daughter spent the night with a group of her friends, so when hubby got home, we went out for an alone time dinner. It was great although he was very tired because he had worked from 6 am until 8 pm. At least I got to see him. I am hoping all this stuff is over soon and we can resume normal family activities, mainly, seeing him. I have been like a single mother for about a month, and it's not a lot of fun. Also, I rented a bunch of movies this weekend since hubby is working so much, so I made sure they were girly flicks that he would not watch anyways. The first one I watched was "Wimbleton", with Paul Bettnay and Kirsten Dunst. I remember seeing previews for this at the movie theatre and it looked pretty good. Acutally, it turned out to be pretty good. Definately a chick flick though. The next one I watched was "Bridget Jones Edge of Reason", and I actually liked it quite a bit. I am not sure what the attraction is with Rene Zellweger, because I think she is probably one of the most unattractive people I have ever seen. She always has her nose crunched up like someone cut the cheese in her direction. I dunno, heavy or slim, she is still not very pretty. She seems like she would be sweet, just as she was in this movie, but I don't know why anyone would find her even remotely attractive. Sorry Rene! Colin Firth just seemed like he had something up his bum throughout the whole movie. I dunno. I guess that Hugh Grant just made it all worth watching. I liked the story though. Saturday I took those movies back and rented more because daughter had a friend spend the night over here. They rented "Scary Movie 2", and I just wasn't going to watch that stupidity. HA! They spent most of their time up stairs in the game room playing "Dance, Dance Revolution".

"Closer" was a movie I had been waiting to see. It's one that I wanted to see at the theatre, but never could make it over there while it was playing. Now that it is out on DVD, I thought I would give it a watch. I grade this just as okay. I guess I don't see why it was so award worthy. I understand the lessons on human nature, and how we choose our own destiny, but I just didn't think it was that fab. It was okay, but I am glad I waited for DVD and I am glad I didn't buy it. It was nice watching Jude Law however. While I cleaned house yesturday I popped in my favorite movie, "Moulin Rouge". Many people do not like it, but I love it. I love the story of how true love overcomes everything. I think the costumes and the scenery are spectacular (Spectacular, Spectacular!!!!). I also love the music, I have the soundtrack to the movie also. My husband watched it with me once, and he was not impressed. My daughter watched it with me and she said the story made her want to cry. She loved it. It is a beautiful love story. And that song "Come What May"....love it.

Okay, now the boring part....my daily workout log:

5 mins warmup on elliptical machine
55 mins to do weights, ActivTrax, abs
25 mins on elliptical hard with 7% resistance and moderate incline.

Workout Log

Saturday workout:

1 hour elliptical machine, stayed in heart rate zone 50 mins.
Crunch machine
Body crunch (pull up leg crunches)

Sadly, it takes me 38 mins, 32 seconds to reach that runners high feeling which means I need to stay on cardio machines longer. *sniff* Sucks.

Deep Thoughts

I was never one to patiently pick up broken fragments and glue them together again and tell myself that the mended whole was as good as new. What is broken is broken -- and I'd rather remember it as it was at its best than mend it and see the broken places as long as I lived. - Margaret Mitchell

TGIF Dammit

Okay, I already posted once, but for some stupid reason when I was using the Firefox browser, it would not let me post!!!! Grrrrr!!!!! (for those of you that don't know.....grrrrr....is a growling angry noise). Anyways, *shaking off frustration* Today my 18 year old is home as today is Senior Skip Day. He asked me last night if he could go to the gym with me. Instead of going to my normal ladies only gym, I took him to the co-ed gym (same company, different location). This was my first time there, so I was not sure what it would be like. They had a lot of different newer machines as this is a newer location. I did my normal 5 min. cardio warm up while I looked around. There were several things that caught my eye that I wanted to try. I usually wait until someone else uses them so I can see how it's done, because I feel like a dufus or a...hmmm..I forgot that Canadian word for dufus and I was really going to try hard to remember that too, but that's how I feel when I have to go up and ask how to do something, like a dufus. My son started his work out while I was getting my warmup out of the way. He has been taking body building this year and has lost tons of weight and has gotten very muscular. I guess it helps that he runs 4 miles a day, sometimes twice. He use to be quiet heavy (230 lbs) and has gotten down to 160 lbs. Also, he has put on some height and is now up to 6'1". He has done very well with working out and running.

While we were at the gym, he asked me if I could do pull ups. I have not done pull ups since I was like in high school, so I immediately told him no. He showed me this machine I have never seen before called the assisted pull up machine. He showed me how it works and I got on and did it. That was an awesome machine. I wish we would get one at our girl gym. I also tried a new cardio machine called the Arc Trainer. If you have not been on one of these, I highly recommend them! It is sort of a cross between an elliptical and a stepper. Very awesome and it has a wireless heart transmitter that picked up my Polar Heart Rate Monitor so I did not have to keep looking down at my watch. I did 20 minutes on this. Very cool and not hard on the knees at all.

Speaking of which, I was upset that they have officially pulled Bextra off the market. It has been a wonderful drug for my knees. The scary part of this is that I developed some freaky rash and had to call my doctor the other night and was informed to stop taking it and immediately start taking Benedryl in case I was having an allergic reaction. One of the reasons it was pulled from the market is due to a life threating rash that is one of the major side effects. Scary! My rash is going away, but I have to call and get something else so that my knees don't start up again. I can already feel that little pang as I walk around and Aleve is not doing a dang thing.

Well, I guess it's in the shower and off to run errands.

Have a great day!

Alabama

You Know You're From Alabama When...

You have a party or a barbeque whenever Alabama plays Auburn in football.

You go to Gulf Shores every summer.

You call the Atlanta Braves baseball team "us" like they're actually from Alabama.

You would much rather visit Florida than California.

You don't "take", you "carry" or "tote"... as in "You want me to carry you down to the 7-11?"

A soft drink isn't soda, cola, or pop, it's Coke.

You call it a "buggy" and not a shopping cart.

You've said "fixin' to," "might could," or "usetacould" during the last week.

Someone you know has used a football schedule to plan their wedding date.

You know the meaning of the phrase "Fobbed again."

You can properly pronounce Eufaula, Opelika, Bayou La Batre, and Oneonta.

The Talladega 500 is the biggest sporting event of any sort during the entire year.

You know exactly what chitlins and mountain oysters are, and you know someone who eats them anyway.

You think that people who complain about the humidity in other states are sissies.

You aren't surprised to find rental movies, groceries, ammunition and bait all in the same store.

You've missed a wedding or a funeral to go to a football game.

Asian food is always "CHINESE" regardless of the fact that it may actually be Korean or Japanese or Thai

You actually get these jokes and pass them on to other friends from Alabama.

Dr. Phil reaches new low

Please tell me what show I am watching and yes, I am watching a talk show. Okay, a man and a woman, they discover they are half brother and sister and they are madly in love. they just cannot stop being together. I am waiting for the ex-boyfriend to come out and start throwing chairs. No, this is not Jerry Springer, for gosh sakes, this is Dr. Phil! Now Dr. Phil is not my favorite person in the world, but sometimes he can give some decent advice. That or it's just funny to see how pathetic people are.

Next, a woman marries a guy in prison and he is about to get out. She did not plan for him to get out of prison...uhhh....huh? Why bother! What the heck is wrong with people?

I am on the edge of my chair waiting to hear this tearjerker.

Grrrrrrr!

Thursday is Funday

The weather saga continues. Alarms going off all over the place, ugh, I hate this! I just got back from the gym. When I left for the gym it was beautiful and sunny, when I came out, ick. Oh well. I had a good workout. From this point on there won't be anything witty or humorous, just my workout for my records, so sign off at this point if you want. Today's workout included my ActivTrax workout which took approximately an hour. I double my crunch workout and added some extra glute, and tricep stuff while doing my ActivTrax. 20 mins hard on the ski machine doing a Himalayan Trek (first time fot that one), redlined for 3 mins according to my Polar Heart Monitor. Also, 5 mins warm up on the elliptical before I did my weights. Great workout with 24:31 in my cardio zone. Should shoot for more next time, but it's hard to get your heart rate up just doing weights, which is the majority of my workout. All in all, I got a pretty good 1 1/2 hour workout and I will take that. It's better than sitting around watching talk shows all day. :0)

YAY!

We are still here! No tornadoes...hooray! We are still under a bunch of warnings and they keep saying the fun is not over, but, I am beginning to believe our weather people are full of...umm...bologna, or boloney, whichever word suits your part of the country. Yes I am in the south, but I prefer something a little more sophisticated like saying bologna. Hubby was here with me most of the day and we finally got our taxes done. The best part of this whole ordeal was that I thought we had everything together and we did sort of a rough fill in on Turbo Tax, and for the first year ever, we are going to have to pay...a lot (thanks to me helping out with a part-time job and knocking us into the stratosphere tax bracket). Oh, getting to the good part, I got my shredder out the other day and was shredding various old receipts that were no longer needed, and lo and behold, I found a mortgage statement for $806 bucks in interest that we had paid. I stared at it for a minute because I did not remember us adding that into Turbo Tax. I kept looking at the date....2004....2004....dang...was I seeing things? I fired up the G4 and opened Turbo Tax..and nope...it was not there! Wow..I was so excited. I added that baby in and it dropped the amount we are going to have to pay down about 200 bucks. I am not sure why I am so excited about that, because we still have to pay...a lot. I wish I would have known and when I was working I would have had an extra amount taken out, but then why would I be working? I am not sure why this makes sense. Oh yeah, and that extra bit of interest added 20 bucks to our state refund..wow..now that will be a big help with our big IRS bill..NOT! And to top it off, hubby ended getting called into work. The fun just never ends.

*sigh*

Auntie Em!

I hope I am not screaming that later today. One of the reasons I hate living next door to Mississippi is that they always send us their terrible weather. Today, they are so graciously sending us a huge batch of rain, hail, high winds and possibly tornadoes. I already dread it. Just a few minutes ago, the local news said that a tornado just ripped up a high school there. This lovely gift is suppose to be here sometime around lunch time which makes me even more angry because I am supposed to go to lunch with some former co-workers. GRRRRRR! Thankfully the Big Norwegian has taken a day off and will be here to calm me down while I am in my tornado warning panic. Nothing is worse than being home alone during these events with no power and worrying about my kids who are in two different schools. At one time I thought that with them being at school they would be safer, but now that I hear this, I am not so sure. It's not all negative though. The good thing about having Mississippi next door is that they take the pressure off being last in almost everything. I can always find that little ray of sunshine can't I?

Disapointment

Disappointment comes in many forms. Today it came in my lunch. I meet once or twice a month with a group of moms for lunch. We always try to go the newest, and of course, hippest new places. Today we chose...uhh...*insert blank here*. Anyways, this place is new, and I really don't want to bad mouth them, but, we all left with much to be desired. This place advertises itself as a brushetta restaurant. That sounded exciting because I love brushetta. They had many different kinds to choose from and it sounded different. We all placed our orders. Some had brushetta (myself included) and others had panini. Sounded great! Okay, either I am a dummy, or I don't know what a brushetta or a panini is.

First off...when you think panini, do you think....

this?

Oh...I do! Doesn't that look just delish?

Instead, the people that ordered panini get this....

Hrmm...that looks more like a sub sandwich to me. Okay, well, they were tasty anyways. Still we sat waiting on our brushetta. After a little great gossip, our brushetta finally comes out. Uhhh.....disappointment. I thought brushetta looked like this....

Now, that's what I was expecting. Instead, I got this delightful surprise...

Oh, and it was covered in sliced pickled asparagus with some sort of cheese melted on it and sprinkled with mushrooms. I paid 6 bucks for a slice of toasted Wonderbread. I guess the joke was on me. We all left pretty disappointed. I feel all dumb and stuff.

*sniff*

I am a dunce.....duh!

This is me today...

Monday Night

Wow...I am actually doing something on a blog 3x in one day. That is just so not me. Blogger seems to be working very well. Nothing much to report except that my daughter, one of her friends and I went to Walmart tonight...ick...Walmarts are icky (at least the ones here are). That's why I love Super Target, nice and clean. Oh, anyways, we went to Walmart then hit the Marble Slab for some ice cream. I didn't have any because of all this working out. I don't want to undo things. My jeans are getting loose. My goal is to be one size smaller in about a month. That will put me back in my younger days, back into a size 8! Whoohoo! I will stop there, but I plan to continue to work out because I like how it makes me feel. The great thing about working out too, is you really don't have to change your eating habits, although I am being much more careful.

On our way home, my son called me and he was just sorta freaking out because he was at a mall out in Washington where he is stationed, and he had just passed a guy that we had seen on Ripley's Believe it or Not. You know, the guy that is trying to look like a tiger or something? I dunno, but he sounded totally freaked by it. Hehehehe. Growing up in Leave it to Beaver world has left him sorta surprised by many things he has seen out in Washington. Things he would never see here. Poor thing. But I am still jealous that he spent Christmas in Hong Kong and his birthday in Singapore..jeez..the life of a sailor. I am proud of him though. He plays hockey for the Navy and they have been doing a lot of community projects. The hockey players went to Ronald McDonald house and hung out with some ill children and their families, then went with them to a semi-pro hockey game. He loved it. I am just glad that although he is in the Navy, he gets to continue to play hockey. He has loved that sport since he could walk, and now he does not have to lose his skills. All those years of playing are paying off. Sorta.

Oh well, I guess I better go be the wonderful mom that I am.

Have a great night!

:0)

Does this mean that Hans Solo is mine?

Which Fantasy/SciFi Character Are You?

Monday

I guess today will be the official day I move my blog over to Blogger. So far, I like it. I liked my other blog, but it is a company out of UK and I didn't want to send money over there to make it do stuff that Blogger can do for free. I have this one set up the way I like it...now I need to figure out how to move my archives over here, or just let them go. I like having the archive because it helps me remember what days I went to the gym and stuff like that, but I guess if I lose it, I lose it. If you want to check out my other one...its at.....

http://www.okgirl.blog-city.com

See it there. If you want to tell me what you think, that would be awesome too.

Other than that, I want to say, I went to the gym this morning and did an hour workout. 20 mins cardio, and 40 mins weights and stretching. This week I am going to try to hit it harder and go everyday. Those shorts will come out of the attic tonight and the winter stuff will go up. I don't want a summer with the "jigglies". HA!

Moving on in...

Just so you know, I am moving my blog. I think I like this Blogger better. I cannot sleep tonight, so why not do some blogwork?

Test

This is a test of the blog system.
